Following fashion studies in Greece and England, Alkmini Trigonaki returned to her roots and established her fashion atelier in Thessaloniki in 1996, at the age of 20. She began creating women's fashion immediately, presenting her first evening gown collection the following year. Soon after, her debut bridal collection followed, and since then, Alkmini has enjoyed a consistent and creative trajectory, showcasing her collections of evening and bridal wear annually.
Each Alkmini collection is distinguished by its haute couture creations, seamlessly blending elegant femininity, understated luxury, and refined finesse with a touch of glamour and theatricality.
ALKMINI Atelier, Thessaloniki, Greece
Based in the impressive, preserved building of Stoa Malakopi in the heart of Thessaloniki, Alkmini approaches design not with sketches, but directly through fabrics, textures, and colors. This unique, tactile process allows her to transcend the boundaries and uniformity of the fashion industry, creating garments that fulfill the modern woman's need for individuality and self-expression through fashion.
Her atelier is housed within a magnificent landmark building in the center of Thessaloniki. This architecturally significant edifice was built in 1906 by the renowned Italian architect of the era, Vitaliano Posseli. It originally housed the Bank of Thessaloniki, founded in 1888 by the Allatini family. Remarkably, it survived the Great Fire of 1917, which ravaged much of Thessaloniki's central district for three days. The bank permanently closed in 1940 when it was requisitioned by the Nazis, and in the 1950s, its new owners transformed it into a commercial arcade with shops and offices. In 1978, the building withstood the great Thessaloniki earthquake, its sole memento being the stopped clock at the center of its facade, frozen at 11:07 AM, the time of the major tremor.
